**Tiago Antao** (##) Education - **BEng in Computer Science** New University of Lisbon, Portugal. 5 year degree - **MSc in Bnformatics** University of Porto, Portugal - **PhD** University of Liverpool, UK I also did the course part of a MSc in Applied Artifical Intelligence (New University of Lisbon). I did not do the thesis as I wanted to write it in English and the University did not accept that. (##) Industrial career Before my work in academia I worked in several companies in Northern Europe. This included insurance companies, banks and internet companies. Backend stuff (Java, databases, C, ...) and networking (Linux, DNS, HTTP, ...) (##) Current work I am a Research Scientist in Bioinformatics mostly focusing on Population Genetics and Genomics based on Sequencing Data. My main tool is Python ([check my book on Python for Bioinformatics](book.md.html)) in a HPC environment. The databases are of the unstructured kind (SQL exists, but is not the main thing). I end up doing lot of system administration for Scientific computing (Linux, Docker, QEMU, ...). I do like it. I am currently designing and implementing a HPC cluster for the whole university. I also program a lot in the Web/Node.JS environment. Part in JavaScript, but also part in ClojureScript. (##) Free time Living in Montana makes nature a part of one's life. Just going out of the door is a pleasure. I read a lot (list forthcoming) and I also write fantasy (never shared, though). I love drawing, though I am the worst at it.
